“We’re Heading into Nut Country Today” American Extremism & The Assassination of President Kennedy

Extremism is nothing new in the American Experience. On November 22, 1963 #PresidentJohnFKennedy was #assasinated in #Dallas #Texas in front of his wife #FirstLady #JackieKennedy as Governor #JohnConnally was wounded in front of his wife . Let’s look at the extremism on the Left & Right wings in the early #1960s as they relate to #Dallas . All over the South anti #civilrights forces spurred on by the #JohnBirchSociety pushed for the impeachment of Supreme Court Chief Justice #EarlWarren – later leader of the #WarrenCommission investigation . Alleged Assassin #LeeHarveyOswald claimed he shot right wing figure Major General #EdwinWalker at his home in #Dallas in April 1963 . #Oswald will later be arrested in #NewOrleans that Summer for pro #Cuba activism before getting at job at the #TexasSchoolBookDepository on the motorcade route that fateful day. That morning #PresidentKennedy had told Jackie : “We’re heading into #nutcountry today. But Jackie, if somebody wants to shoot me from a window with a rifle, nobody can stop it, so why worry about it?”
